Hot Dip Galvanizing
Hot Dip Galvanising is a coating method that protects metal parts against corrosion. In this process, metal parts are cleaned with acid and then immersed in the molten zinc bath. The metal parts are completely coated in molten zinc, and as a result of this process, their surfaces are coated with a corrosion-resistant zinc layer. This coating ensures the metal parts are long-lasting and protected against various external factors. It is a frequently preferred method to increase the durability of materials such as iron and steel structural elements, especially in the construction sector.
What Is Hot Dip Galvanization?
This process is usually applied to protect metals such as steel or iron. The metal parts are cleaned with a special acid at the beginning of the process, and dirt, rust, or other residues are removed from their surfaces. The cleaned metal parts are then immersed in a bath containing molten zinc.
When the metal parts are immersed in the molten zinc bath, the zinc coating adheres to the surface of the parts and covers the entire metal part. This step ensures that the parts are coated with zinc on all sides. The zinc coating then cools, solidifies on the parts, and fuses with the metal surface.
Hot Dip Galvanizing Benefits
Hot dip galvanizing provides a variety of benefits including:
  • Creates     a barrier between the steel and the environment: Galvanizing     steel puts a coating between the steel and the outside environment. Water,     wind, salt, debris, and other potential things that can damage the steel     is kept away.
  • Makes     the surface abrasion-resistant: Hot drip galvanizing is resistant     to abrasions and even if it is scratched or gouged it will continue to     protect against corrosion.
  • Provides     complete coverage of the steel: Galvanizing steel will completely     cover every inch of the steel surface, providing complete protection.
  • Offers     a long, maintenance-free life span: Galvanized steel requires no     annual spraying, re-coatings, or anything else.
Hot Dip Galvanising and Wear Relationship
Hot-dip galvanizing is an effective coating method to protect metal parts against corrosion. However, the thought that galvanized surfaces may be corrupted or damaged can cause concern in some cases. So, does hot-dip galvanizing cause corrosion?
Wear Resistance of Galvanising
Hot-dip galvanizing protects metal surfaces by coating them with zinc. Under normal conditions, this coating increases the resistance of the metal against various external factors. However, friction, impact, or extreme mechanical influences can cause corrosion on galvanized surfaces.
How is it affected?
Galvanized surfaces are normally resistant to corrosion thanks to the zinc layer. However, excessive friction or impacts may cause wear and tear on the zinc layer. This may be more evident, especially in areas in contact with excessive mechanical effects or friction.
How to Protect?
Regular maintenance is important to minimize the corrosion of galvanized surfaces. This means identifying any damage or scratches that may occur on the surface and making timely repairs. In addition, an additional layer of protection can be applied when necessary.
Industrial Application Areas
Automotive Industry: In the automotive industry, body parts, wheels, and other vehicle components are coated with wet paint to protect them and give them an aesthetic appearance.
Metal Manufacturing and Construction: In the metal manufacturing and construction sectors, various metal parts are coated with wet paint to protect them against rust and achieve an aesthetic appearance.
Furniture Industry: Wooden furniture is colored and protected using wet paint. This method helps to create quality and long-lasting products in the furniture industry.
Metal Coating and Protection: Metal products are protected against environmental factors by coating them with wet paint and making them longer lasting.
The wet paint technique increases the durability of many materials used in the industrial sector while making an important contribution to aesthetics. This method offers various advantages in the industrial field by improving the quality of the products.
